Paths of Light — Contemporary Abstract Scottish Landscape Art

Paths of Light is a vibrant contemporary abstract landscape inspired by the colours, movement and atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands and lochs.

Rich blues and turquoise create a luminous sense of water and distance, while intense gold, orange, red, green and silver tones bring energy to the foreground. Strong diagonal shapes and sweeping lines guide the eye through the composition towards the bright horizon, creating a feeling of movement, openness and discovery.

The painting combines abstract mark-making with subtle landscape references, allowing the viewer to recognise suggestions of hills, water and changing light without fixing the image too literally.

Created as part of a series exploring how composition affects the way we look at a painting, Paths of Light uses contrast, rhythm, balance and repeated colour to keep the eye moving through the scene.
