About us

My mission is to create art that inspires hope and happiness that will lead you to fulfil your dreams.

Ian (Clements) McCulloch was born in Toronto, Canada in the mid-1950s and moved to the UK as a child, growing up in Scotland. Influenced early on by his father, an architect, Ian was encouraged to observe and draw the built and natural environment around him. Sailing and an outdoor life played a central role in his upbringing, fostering a lasting connection to space, movement, and form.

Throughout his life, Ian has been fascinated by images and the many ways the world is interpreted and represented through the eyes of others. His interest in abstract art emerged during his teenage years and deepened while studying for his Bachelor of Technology Education (Honours) degree at the University of Glasgow. Following his studies, Ian pursued a career as a high-school Technology teacher, where his work spanned woodwork, product design, and graphic communication. This long-standing engagement with materials, structure, and visual language has naturally evolved into a contemporary abstract art practice, informed by both technical discipline and creative exploration.

Nature and the maritime environment play a large part not only in his life but also in the abstract images he produces. He feels that the artistic exchange between the sea and the artist opens up many opportunities.  The strive for consistency of style that is uniquely his own.  Viewers continuously say they “can spot a Clements McCulloch work from across the room”. Establishing his own, unique, artistic voice is his primary goal. His method of producing art means he will never paint the same image twice. Every piece that he creates is truly an original, completed to his highest standards.

He has studied extensively and has been influenced by numerous contemporary artists such as John Beckley and David M Kessler

Ian has exhibited under his pen name of Clements McCulloch in local art fairs, galleries and exhibitions. His paintings have sold locally and online. Original and canvas framed prints are available on this website.

About Clements McCulloch

I create art for those who choose meaning over noise.

My work is inspired by the quiet power of nature — the movement of the sea, the stillness of forests, the changing light across open skies. These landscapes, both real and imagined, shape every piece I create.

I believe art should do more than decorate a wall.
It should create a feeling.
It should hold space.
It should bring calm, hope, and a sense of connection into your everyday life.

Where Nature Meets Emotion

Living in Scotland, surrounded by coastlines, glens, and open skies, I’m constantly reminded of the deep relationship between land, sea, and human emotion. The rhythms of nature are woven into my abstract work through layered textures, organic forms, and expressive colour.

Each piece is created intuitively — guided by feeling rather than rules — so that no two works are ever the same. My art invites you to slow down, to breathe, and to reconnect with what truly matters.

Art with Purpose

Environmental care, peace, and emotional well-being are at the heart of my practice. I create with intention, choosing themes that honour the natural world and reflect a quieter, more thoughtful way of living.

Collectors often tell me they feel a sense of calm when living with my work — as if the artwork becomes part of the room’s atmosphere rather than an object within it. That is the greatest compliment I could receive.

A Shared Journey

If you are someone who finds comfort in nature, values meaningful spaces, and believes art should make you feel, then my work is created for you.

Thank you for being here.
Thank you for choosing art with heart.

Ian (Clements) lives and works beside the sea and the countryside in Ayrshire, Scotland.

I have recently added a Free Ebook – Abstract Art – A Language Without Words
